On 31 October, the topping-out ceremony was held for building units 1 and 2 of the Urban Soul project in Bonn. The project comprises an ensemble of three building units offering a total gross floor area of 40,000 m² for retail, hotel, catering, office, parking and residential uses. It replaces the notorious “Bonner Loch”, a sunken square with stairs leading down into the underground part of the railway station. The motto of the ceremony, which was also attended by the city’s Lord Mayor, was “Bonn shines, Urban Soul radiates”. Completion is planned for 2021.

Following its successful acceptance by the building control and monument preservation authorities, the Kaispeicher building was handed over by Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft Kaispeicher Düsseldorf mbH (a special purpose vehicle of INTERBODEN Gewerbewelten) to the user for further interior finishing and occupation.

When it was originally constructed at the end of the nineteenth century, the now listed property was one of the first concrete framework structures in Germany erected in the innovative system of reinforced concrete construction developed by François Hennebique.

In close cooperation with the Düsseldorf monument preservation office, the existing building was carefully refurbished so that it now meets the needs of a modern office building.

Last Wednesday, the topping out ceremony was held for the Mercator One project. All project participants enjoyed the bright sunshine and the refreshments and took the opportunity to have closer look at the construction project.

Mercator One is an office and commercial building with six above-ground floors and two basements with underground car park located at the Duisburg main railway station. The Client is DEVARIO represented by SK62. The building is based on a design by Hadi Teherani Architects. IQ Real Estate GmbH is in charge of the project management. Completion of the project is planned for next year.

On 19 and 20 September, a convention celebrating the 10th anniversary of the DVP-Zert® training scheme took place in Berlin. Christina Maaß, shareholder and managing director of IQ Real Estate, together with Sigrid Brell-Cokcan, director of the Chair of Individualized Production in Architecture at RWTH Aachen University, presented a paper exploring “What digitalization means for the construction industry” on the second day.

In their paper, they addressed questions such as “Which disruptive business models will be able to shake up the building sector?” and “What changes will the use of robotics on the construction site bring?
