On 1 June 2018, work on the extension of the Aero Pump production areas was started. Aero Pump is one of the globally leading manufacturers of application systems for the pharmaceutical industry. As part of this fourth section of construction, nearly €20 million will be invested to create additional areas in the assembly, injection moulding and storage departments. Completion is planned for November 2019. IQ Real Estate GmbH already supported the three previous construction sections in all service phases.

On 20 July 2018, the Cologne trade fair and event organizer Koelnmesse and invited guests celebrated the official end of the construction work for the multi-storey car park at Zoo Bridge.  Parts of the building had already been opened in September 2017 and full operation of the car park with its 3,200 parking spaces started April 2018. In the meantime, also the finishing touches have been completed, including the commissioning of ten charging station for electric vehicles – thirty more can be retrofitted at any time.

The celebration was held on the logistics area which offers space for about 310 lorries and will – together with the new multi-storey car park – ease the car and lorry traffic burden of the surrounding quarters on the right bank of the river Rhine. In order to ensure a smooth trade fair logistics, the new logistics centre was created in the immediate vicinity of the car park building.

For the car park and the associated trade fair logistics building, Koelnmesse had launched a “design and build” competition which was won by the Cologne architecture firm schultearchiteken together with Deutsche Industrie- und Parkhaus GmbH (dip). The result is a curved structure with an individual  design that blends in nicely with the surroundings and takes account of the prominent location directly at the Zoo Bridge. A particular highlight is the north façade in the bridge area. For this, the Stuttgart architecture firm wulf architekten designed a curtain wall of metal scales with more than 3,000 individual elements – so far unique in Germany.

In May 2018, after a construction period of 20 months, Vodafone took over the office areas in the City Gate Nord as scheduled. The building (gross floor area approx. 8,000 m²) includes high-quality office areas for the anchor tenant Vodafone as well as areas available for third-party tenants, a staff restaurant, a Vodafone shop and a multi-storey car park. DGNB Gold certification is envisaged for this year. Apart from providing technical consulting services, IQ Real Estate GmbH was also responsible for the staff-function and line-function project management on behalf of the tenant.

The foundation ceremony on 26 April 2018 marked the official start of the construction work for the Urban Soul project in Bonn.

The large construction site at the main railway station will eventually accommodate three independent new builds and close an urban development gap in the inner city, the “Bonner Loch” (Bonn hole) which will soon be a thing of the past.

The ceremony met with great public interest and was attended by the Lord Mayor of Bonn, Mr Sridharan, representatives of the client die developer Projektentwicklung GmbH, Mr Mühling and Mr Julius, a representative of the anchor tenant for the Motel One hotel, Mr Weiland, and the architect Mr Wens of CROSS Architecture.

By the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven in 2020, the new gateway into the city is to be completed.
