On 16 June 2019, the Lions Club Essen Ruhrtal organized a classic car rally to raise money for Friedensdorf Oberhausen, a charity which helps children from war-torn regions and crisis areas worldwide.
On a bright sunny Sunday morning, about 50 teams started with their equally shining classic cars for a 170 km tour. First refreshments were served in the Düsseldorf harbour on the terrace of the Hafenspitze (an IQ Real Estate Project). The route then led through idyllic villages to the Friedensdorf (literally “Peace Village”) in Oberhausen, where each team presented a bowl of strawberries purchased along the way for the 200 children.
The tour ended in Mülheim an der Ruhr where the proceeds of the rally – a cheque for 12,500 euros – was handed over to a very happy Dr Susanne Grünewald, chairwomen of Friedensdorf e.V.
So: A good day for all participants, helpers, sponsors and especially for the children in the Peace Village.
